Paula reminded us that for RYLA Eric Charpentier is recruiting High School student applications until April 30th. Our club has a budget for 2 students this year and we only have one application. Also Camp Confidence needs help on May 13 with some projects and clean up.
Aaron Antony reminded us the next ditch cleanup will be April 30th with a 5:00pm start. Food and drinks will follow the event. An online sign up on ClubRunner was sent by an email or use this link. Meet at the zoo, more details coming by email.
Kevin reminded us to check out tickets for this years Reverse Raffle. It will take place on May 16th with a goal to sell 300 tickets. To date 226 tickets were checked out and 55 have been returned with payments. As we sell them we need to bring the ticket purchaser info and funds back to Allie and Carol. Please pick them up from Allie.
Speakers: Daniel Meyer - Development director for the Lakes Area Music Festival shared the 2024 season. Founded in 2009 by Scott Lykins and Taylor Ward LAMF now has over 40 events each year. The three prong approach uses performance, education, and community outreach (examples include symphony, opera, chamber music, yoga in the park along with youth education programs with a week long summer camp with serving 100 youth, classroom visit, county jail, libraries, and MN Teen Challenge with a goal to bring music to diverse community members.
The arts have a positive impact in our community. Most of their performances are free. With an epidemic of loneliness in US, anxiety, and mental illness are opn the rise. Arts have measurably improved social determinants of health. Music can transend many societal barriers uniting us through a common experience. In 2019 LAMF contributed $6M to the Crow Wing County economy when concert goers eat, shop and stay in the lakes area. This year budget is over $1.1M, with $850k to raise through August 2024.
